It is estimated that 90% of golf swing errors are caused by an improper set-up position when addressing the golf ball. If a player sets up incorrectly to the golf ball, then the player must make some compensation(s) during the swing in order to make contact with the golf ball. Compensations lead to inconsistencies.
Here is a simple tip to help establish positive consistency, correct ball position.
A player’s ball position is constant throughout the entire bag, except for the putter. The only element that changes is the width of the player’s stance as the club increases or decreases in length (Driver versus Wedge).
-
Right handed players can use their shirt logo (if it’s on the left chest) as a reference point.
-
Image a line extending from the ball to the shirt logo. This will correctly place the ball position approximately 2-3 inches inside the left foot.

This tip should place the player on the road to simple consistency.
